Biography
Sebastian Gomez is an astrophysicist who specializes in observations of cosmic explosions such as supernovae and black holes destroying stars. Using telescopes in space and on the ground, he aims to understand how stars live, die, and shape their surroundings. Before joining UT, he was a Clay Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian. Previously, he was an STScI Postdoctoral Fellow at the Space Telescope Science Institute, where he supported the development of NASA’s next flagship mission, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. Sebastian earned his Ph.D. in Astronomy from Harvard University in 2021 studying rare supernovae and tidal disruption events, after completing a Physics degree at The University of Texas at El Paso, not far from his home town of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
