Abstract
I’ll present a short review of a newly established angle on the ISM called Kinetic Tomography (KT). KT is a collection of methods that allow us to combine velocity and position information in the ISM to meausre 4D or even 6D information about the ISM. I’ll cover approaches using radio emission, dust reddening, Gaia, diffuse interstellar bands, and ISM absorption lines. I’ll explain some of the methods, which blend tools from bayesian inference and machine vision. I’ll primarily discuss the Milky Way, but also show some new and exciting results in the SMC. I’ll touch on the bright future of the method, and where we are going next.
