Abstract

It's fair to say that eclipses are kind of a big deal... This extends deep into both historical and modern astrophysics, particularly through the phenomenon of eclipsing stellar binaries. The NASA TESS mission has provided photometry of almost the entire sky, which is pretty handy if you want to study eclipses. I will showcase a few student-led studies of eclipsing binaries. We will see ultra-precise chracterisation of M-dwarfs, interesting interplay between tides, star spots and flares, plus the hunt for circumbinary planets.
